Our digital initiatives

Delivery of the products, services and solutions within each of the four pillars depends on a number of foundational enabling capabilities. These aren’t necessarily transformational but enable the success of our ongoing digitalisation journey. It includes initiatives across Data and Information, Technology and Cyber as well as People and Process.

Unified Network Model

Development of a digital twin of our network and assets, exchanged using relevant CIM standards and profiles.

SMART NETWORKS

STATUS: On Track

TARGET END: 01.02.2024

Active Response

Design and trial a responsive, automated electricity network that re-configures and optimises itself in real-time, moving spare capacity to where the demand is and avoid reinforcement.

SMART NETWORKS

STATUS: On Track

TARGET END: 01.04.2024

Envision and Foresight

Application of machine learning to model and estimate utilisation at low voltage substation and transformer level, targeting reduction in the need to install physical sensors and monitoring.

Long-Term Forecasting Platform (Strategic Forecasting System)

Development of enhanced medium to long term forecasting capabilities to produce granular and accurate models of future demand and generation, which will be shared in an open and transparent manner with stakeholders.

SMART NETWORKS

STATUS: On Track

TARGET END: 01.06.2024

Local Area Energy Planning Tools

Development of local and national policy planning functionality to model the impact of policy decisions on investment in network infrastructure. This includes self-service tool "CLEO" to support local authorities in the design and development of local area energy plans (LAEP).

SMART NETWORKS

TARGET END: 30.10.2024

Shift 2.0

Explore and test the use of dynamic and locational pricing to address secondary peaks, herding behaviour, and constraints, caused by LCT uptake and conflicting market signals.

SMART NETWORKS

STATUS: On Track

TARGET END: 12.03.2025

Short-Term Forecasting Platform

Develop and evolve short-term forecasting tools/models to predict load, generation, network constraint and load related network intervention requirements across different voltage levels and operational timescales.

SMART NETWORKS

STATUS: On Track

TARGET END: 01.03.2026

Flexibility Market Platform

An online platform facilitating the procurement and management of flexibility - from registration and qualification through to performance assessment and market settlement.

SMART NETWORKS

STATUS: On Track

TARGET END: 01.12.2026

Flexibility Services Dispatch Platform

Develop enhanced dispatch platform capabilities and develop interfaces to multiple systems. This will automate existing processes of scheduling flexibility services and integrating data sources from operational forecasting and Market prices.
