Distributed Energy Resource Management System Expansion

62-Distributed-Energy-Resource-Management-System-Expansion-e1687188682225

What we will do and why

Expansion of the existing Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) platform to cater for a wider variety of network constraints, across a wider proportion of the network, with more dynamic and closer to real-time functionality.

Key deliverables

  • Enhanced software applications including a load flow based constraint management system.
  • Data quality enhancements.
  • Cross-application integration (involving Flex Dispatch platform, Flex Market platform, DERMS).
  • New non-firm Connections products (voltage, fault level) to manage additional electrical problems.
  • Wider roll out of Dynamical Line Rating (DLR) unlocking more capacity.

Target outcomes

  • More intelligent, dynamic and closer to real-time functions/ actions.
  • Increased network headroom and safety.
  • Improved customer journey.
  • Large suite of products we can offer customers for cheaper and faster Connections (voltage, fault level constraints).

Measures of success

  • Accuracy of the operational decisions.
  • Increase in customer satisfaction.
  • Decrease in network curtailment.

Stakeholder Engagement

To capture and incorporate customer views into this project.

  • Automation of existing processes (Dec 2026)

Status:

Delayed

Date of change Category Description
20.12.2024 Update

Due to the additional workload, the due date for the Milestone (CIM Model populated with necessary data parameters) has been revised from March 2025 to December 2026. The status of the Milestone (Release of Flexible Demand access product) has been updated from cancelled to complete. Additionally, the Milestone originally named (Release of enhanced Import functionality) has been renamed to (Release of Flexible Demand access product).

Two new Milestones have been introduced: (Release of Voltage Constraint management access product) and (Release of Profiled Connection access product). Furthermore, the Milestone (Release of enhanced functionality on fault level) has been renamed to (Release of fault level management access product), and its due date has been adjusted from June 2025 to August 2026 as a result of the inclusion of a new access product.

The status of the milestone (Automation of existing processes) has been changed from On track to on hold due to the re-tendering process currently being undertaken. Consequently, the overall project target completion date has been moved from March 2028 to December 2026.

28.06.2024 Update

Release of Enhanced functionalitie milestone has been split into 2 parts. Part 1 Release of enhanced Import functionality is complete. Part 2 Release of enhanced functionality on fault level due date is set for June 2025 (was March 2025). Team needs more time to accomodate newly found enhancements.
